Demonstration of hand weaving |
|
A woman weaver demonstrates flax linen weaving on old wooden looms originating from Slovenia’s southern region of Bela Krajina. The wooden bench that the weaver sits on is an integral part of the loom. By pressing on a foot pedal, a shaft raises a set of heddles through which yarn is threaded. Weft threads are shuttled back and forth across the warp. The weaver manipulates the shuttle by raising and lowering warp threads by a foot pedal. The procedure is repeated many times. Demonstration can be viewed with the pruchase of the museum ticket. On Sunday, 1st August 2010, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. |
