The aim of the project is to research and present technical and cultural heritage of scientists and inventors from Central Europe. Six technical museums (from Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia), under the authority of the Technical Museum of Slovenia, have joined in the Central European network. Our common goal is to reevaluate and present not only the inventions and discoveries, but also great scientists and inventors, including not so well known ones, in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, mountain science, construction, motoring... With this project we will create an interactive game for children aged 10 - 14 years in which they will learn about scientists and inventors through an adventure. Children will learn how to make logical conclusions, they will compete in the inventiveness and creativity and compare with the giants of physics, mathematics, chemistry ... The game will begin its trip in the Technical Museum of Slovenia in Bistra in autumn of 2010 and will later, along the lines of cosmopolitan scientists and inventors, move to Vienna, Brno, Krakow, Košice, and finally to Budapest. Children from six countries will compete together in a great scientific adventure, where not only knowledge but also courage, teamwork and ingenuity will be taken into account. The adventure for children will be prepared in their native languages, which means that the game will be translated in all six national languages. Each installation of the game in the museum will be unique, meaning it will include a special national emphasis on the local technical heritage and further research in the local museum. In January 2010 we also published a publication with more than 300 scientists and inventors of Central Europe being presented in it. Since we wanted to preserve the spirit of innovation, we didn't waste paper and instead we published the Lexicon of scientists and inventors from Central Europe on the web portal of the CESA project ( www.cesa-project.eu). It is accessible to all, while enabling a transparent, user-friendly and authentic popular scientific literature, which will be translated into seven languages (Slovenian, English, German, Czech, Polish, Slovak, and Hungarian). On the first week of March 2010 Technical museum of Slovenia in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture Ljubljana, organised Architectural workshop GAME, SPACE, LIGHT which took place in Bistra. Under the mentorship of doc. Dr. Tomaž Novljan ten students prepared two conceptual architecture solutions for scene and lighting installation for game - Central European Science Adventure. The jury, Dr. Orest Jarh (Director of TMS), Bernard Petrovčič (TMS), Ivo Koritnik (production designer) and Lea Šuligoj (CESA project manager), has selected the winning solution, which corresponded to the conditions of feasibility, flexibility, innovation and aesthetic suitability. Winning solution, which was created by students Sara Švab, Anja Urankar, Anja Kocjančič, Matic Kalamar and Larisa Kazič, will be finalized in next stage of implementation plan under the professional guidance of Bernard Petrovčič, doc. dr. Tomaž Novljan and Saša Grujić and in the end also carried out in six European venues. As part of the workshop and the project CESA also the leading Slovenian light producing company Intra lighting is involved. Their expert advice and sponsorship will affect on the overall quality of chosen solutions’ performance. More photos you can see in the Gallery. The project is supported by:
