Traktor Bubba

Bubba, the tractor grandfather

Bubba is the oldest tractor in our museum collection as well as one of the oldest tractors in Slovenia. It was built in 1920 in the Italian “Bubba Trattori” factory in Piacenza and is one of the first produced specimens. It has a two-stroke engine with 30 hp and metal wheels; as rubber tyres were not in use until about another decade later.
Bubba was used for ploughing and hauling firewood; the owners made some adaptations so it suited their needs better. It first ran on mazut heavy fuel oil, but as this made it difficult to start the tractor on colder days, they added a petroleum tank. When Bubba was replaced by a newer rival, it was still in use as a curiosity in shrove Tuesday parades and at the Cherry Festival in Goriška Brda.
The museum bought the tractor in 1982.
