The temporary exhibition The Pivka Landscape Through the Year – Life Amidst Intermittent Lakes and Large Carnivores offers visitors an insight into the natural and cultural heritage of the Pivka Basin. Created in collaboration with the Tourist Information Center Pivka and the Pivka Intermittent Lakes Landscape Park, the exhibition will be on display at the museum until April 12, 2026.

Visitors are guided through the four seasons of the Pivka Basin, discovering Karst phenomena such as intermittent lakes and numerous rare or characteristic flora and fauna. Notable highlights include the fairy shrimp (Chirocephalus croaticus), the Illyrian gladiolus, and the Scarce Large Blue butterfly. A special focus is placed on large carnivores (bear, lynx, and wolf) that inhabit the vast Javorniki-Snežnik forests.

Conservation and Coexistence

The installation emphasizes the importance of preserving biodiversity and the responsible coexistence between humans and nature. It also highlights the two central interpretation centers managed by the Pivka Tourism Board:

  • DINA Pivka Large Carnivore Center

  • The Ecomuseum of the Pivka Intermittent Lakes

  • The “Bear Friendly” sustainability label.

Collaboration with the Technical Museum of Slovenia

The exhibition’s residency at the Technical Museum of Slovenia is part of the CLLD “Bear Friendly Label” project, which aims to raise awareness about nature conservation, sustainable development, and responsible living alongside large carnivores. The exhibition meaningfully complements the museum’s permanent Hunting Collection, which explores wildlife and the evolution of the human-nature relationship, while offering a modern perspective on cohabitating with apex predators.

We invite visitors to experience the exhibition in person and delve deeper into the unique natural heritage of the Pivka region through our accompanying events.
