The Carder

The central position in textile department is held by the carder which dates to 1909 and was used in the Predilnica Litija spinning mill. The carder was called “the heart of the spinning mill” as the quality of the yarn depended on it. The carder takes a tuft of yarn and disentangles it into individual threads, cleans and straightens them, while also removing the shortest fibres, transforming the fibre into a continuous web or sliver suitable for subsequent processing. In 1956, there were 121 such carders in the aforementioned spinning mill which were replaced with more powerful ones between 1969 and 1971.
