Technical Museum of Slovenia Collections

Wildlife & Hunting

Slovene Hunting Museum is one of the oldest collections of the museum. Its beginnings go back to 1947 when the Forestry institute of Slovenia
founded the Museum of Forestry, Woodworking and Hunting which gained its first exhibitions rooms in 1952. The hunting department was later annexed to the Technical Museum of Slovenia, and its patronage was given to the Hunters’ Association of Slovenia which has been in charge of its financial and professional support ever since. Today’s image was given to the Slovene Hunting Museum in 1975 and there is a thorough modernization planned for the following years. This Museum also prepares temporary exhibitions in cooperation with inland and foreign museums and other institutions. The Slovene Hunting Museum was founded with the intention of evidencing, documenting, researching and inventarising natural and cultural heritage related to hunting and ecology of free-living wild animals and their protection. Based on the collection policies and its mission, the museum protects, safekeeps and constantly adds new materials to the collection. It contributes to the awareness of the public about the protection of nature and environment and at the same time takes care for the preservation of the rich heritage of the hunting tradition in Slovenia. The hunting collection contains over 3000 exhibit pieces, including dermoplastics of game, trophies, hunting weapons and other tools, but also old documents, medals and postcards. The core of the permanent collection are the exhibit pieces that are completed by the professional and written material about hunting and wild game.
